Abstract(in English) Satellite communications system plays an important role in consracting global information infrastructure. Developing gigabit rate satellite communications system snables seamless networking with terrestrial based high data rate networks. NASA/ACTS project broke up the the R&D of gigabit satellite communications systems and lead operational system plans which will start services in arround 2002. The Experimental Gigabit Satellite is currently developed in Japan aiming at the launch in around 2005. Gigabit satellite networking technology is also currently developed actively.
