Basic study on the advanced broadcasting satellite system

Abstract(in English) We have been studying advanced broadcast satellite systems composed of on-board large-scale phased array antenna. This antenna can compensate for rain attenuation by increasing the EIRP(Equivalent Isotropically Radiated Power)over areas in which the heavy rain is falling. This paper describes the results of the basic studies which focused on the matter described below, (1)regulatory issues related to broadcasting satellite systems with the power-controllable steering beams, (2)the estimation methods of rain attenuation over the service area, (3)the design methods of phased-array-fed single reflector antenna with steering beams, (4)TWTA with small diameters to be mounted on the phased array antenna.
