Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The espar antenna has strong potential to be a breakthrough for developing adaptive antennas aboard portable wireless terminals. It offers much lower fabrication cost and dc power dissipation, as well as higher dynamic range against arriving interferences than digital-beamforming antennas do. This paper presents the basic configuration and features of the espar antenna compared with other beamforming schemes. Its directivity is formulated by introducing an"equivalent"weight vector and a steering vector. The relationship between the equivalent weight vector and the variable reactances is analytically clarified in the formulation. The formulation is very important in understanding the principle of adaptive beamforming of espar antennas.
