A Study on the Multiple Zone Construction for Indoor Optical Wireless Communication System and Countermeasures against Shadowing

Abstract(in English) A line-of-sight(LOS) optical wireless communication system with multiple zone construction has been taking a great attention, as it achieves a high speed, high capacity and high spectrum efficient indoor office/home wireless network system. However, in the LOS optical wireless communication system with multiple zone construction, the error performance will be degraded by the reflection light from an adjacent zone. In this paper, regarding the influence of the reflection light, we show the improvement of capacity and the required transmission power by using the multiple zone construction system. Moreover, in order to solve the problems that LOS system is susceptible to severe shadowing and has a limited coverage, we propose a optical and radio hybrid wireless communication system. Numerical results conclude that the performance of packet error rate and throughput can be much improved by using the proposed system.
