Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In this paper we have investigated a new codeword assignment method for source-channel(SC)encoding of AC coefficients with multicode DS/SS modulation. The proposed method assigns specific codewords to a quantized level of 0 and end-of-block(EOB)information. Even though the proposed method increases the total number of bits to be transmitted, distortion to the reconstructed image should be smaller. This is because the proposed assignment method reduces the total number of source symbols and achieves better distance property between the codewords. With multicode DS/SS modulation, the total amount of energy to transmit an image is more significant than the total number of bits. The proposed method shows better performance than the conventional codeword assignment method for larger AC coefficients.
