Abstract(in English) | In this paper, the role of mobile satellite communications is first described in comparing with that for the terrestrial based mobile communications. Second, this paper reviews the present status of mobile satellite communications focusing on Inmarsat standard systems currently operating and under development for providing various mobile satellite communications services to maritime, aeronautical and land users. Finally, this paper describes the recent developments in global personal satellite communications systems using non-geostationary orbiting satellites which allow the user to use a handheld terminal. |
