Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) An ARQ error control scheme assures a high quality data transmission over an unreliable channel, such as a fading channel. In a very unreliable channel, however, retransmission is repeated frequently, and thus the total system throughput is degraded. In a DCT-based highly-compressed still image transmission, there are many cases where bit error doesn't cause serious quality degradation subjectively. This paper proposes the ARQ scheme which transmits a high quality progressive still image efficiently by sending more important information bits of a compressed image with higher priority.
