Beam Synthesis of Large Antenna for S-band Satellite Mobile Communications and Broadcasting System

Abstract(in English) ASC has been developing S-band satellite mobile communications and broadcasting system of the future. One of the developments is a large deployable antenna which has a 10m diameter mesh reflector. This paper presents the radiation characteristics of a large deployable antenna. In communication system, we have divided the Japanese mainland into five coverage areas and synthesized the shaped multibeam which correspond to each coverage area. Moreover, for frequency re-use, approximately -26dB isolation at intervals of two beam is obtained. In broadcasting system, shaped beam considering radiation characteristics of vehicle antenna is presented. For an example, a switching plane array antennna for vehicles is assumed on the ground, and because that its gain on the low elevation angle is 3dB lower than high angle, a shaped beam with 3dB slope was made to compensate for its radiation characteristics.
