A Study on Economical RF ODU for 10Mbps Digital Signal Transmission

Abstract(in English) A low cost satellite communication earth station is strongly demanded to make the satellite communication more widely used.This paper focused on the Ku-band local oscillator(LO)and studied about the possibility to use the′low cost oscilator′DRO,instead of the highly stabilized ′expensive oscillator′ such as PLO on usual ear th station. First of all,the characterisfics of the phase noise and the temperature stability of the DRO are evaluated theoretically then the available transmission rate is suggested.Then,as the LO of the RX,the DRO build in′consumer use′LNB(CS-receiver)and also the con sumer use DRO for the Ku-band up converter as the LO of the TX are evaluated on the experimental manner.With these components,the relation of the BER to the Eb, NO of the digital communication system is also evaluated through the pseudo satellite communication link.Then found out that for the system which transmission rate is 1OMbps and above,the DRO is acceptable only if temperature stability is achieved. Finally,a new architecture of the ODU for acquiring the stability performance of the DRO is presented.Also indicated that the new ODU brings cost reduction and higher reliability.
