In the information infrastructure, optical fiber networks play very important roles because of high performance of high speed data transmissions. What is the role of satellite communications in global information infrastructure? From this stand point of view, this paper describes a background, objectives and activities of research and developments of Giga-bit satellites in Japan and in the world. |
