Function, Design and Evaluation of Passive SSR : An Apprication for accurate ATC Simulation

Abstract(in English) Secondary Surveillance Radar (SSR) is used to control aircraft cruise in airways and terminal airspace.About 50 Systems for Air Route and Airport Surveillance are now in operation in Japan.Though installation of SSR mode-S and ADS as an application of SATCOM are progressing now, these will not reduce the value of the conventional SSR of mode-A/C that supports operation of commuter aircraft and general aviation.Passive SSR(PSSR)is a convenient system provides SSR mode-A/C information without any radio transmission as interrogation .In this paper, the function, design and evaluation of PSSR is described, and prospects of development of PSSR as equipment for ATC simulation in ENRI are also described.
