Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) This paper proposes a transmission diversity (TD) technique combined with orthogonal frequency division multiplex (OFDM) modulation to enhance bit-error-rate (BER) and packet-error-rate (PER) performance in microcell broadband wireless access systems. The proposed TD technique selects the antenna with the anticipated better-channel conditions in a subchannel-by-subchannel manner at the base station (BS). This is carried out based on the quality-measurement results of the signals sent by the personal station (PS). In the subsequent transmission timing from the BS to the PS, each antenna at the BS station transmits the OFDM-modulated signals which only possess the selected subchannel components. Then, the PS receiver receives the space-combined whole subchannel OFDM signal through the one antenna. This technique significantly enhances the BER and PER performance without employing multiple antennas or receivers on the PS side. Also, the proposed technique is effective in reducing the peak power required for the amplifier at the BS.
