Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) CDMA is the most promising access scheme for the 3rd generation mobile communications systems. Because it is indispensable to cope with multimedia communications in the 3rd generation systems, CDMA packet transmission with high transmission efficiency over a wide variety of traffic characteristics is also necessary for the systems. There are two methods for packet transmission that are used as media access control (MAC) methods in radio packet transmission, one is a reservation method and the other is a contention method. Each method has advantages and disadvantages in transmission efficiency and required received power. This paper evaluates them in view of required received power. As a result, the application regions of MAC methods are clarified for different traffic characteristics.
