An analysis on accuracy of mobile speed estimation in hierarchical cellular networks

Abstract(in English) In hierarchical cellular systems, it is necessary to select a suitable cell and hand over to the cell for a mobile, depending on the mobile speed in order to use the systems effectively. Various methods such as utilizing the change of radio propagation have been proposed for estimating mobile speed. However, these methods need certain time for speed estimation, and the longer time gives higher accuracy. In this paper we analyze the relationship between speed estimation error rate and erroneous cell selection under given functional relations between the error rate and the time, by using probability density function and traffic equilibrium concepts, and point out the appropriete error rate exists for estimating speed.
