Multimedia Satellite Communication System using Portable User Terminals

Abstract(in English) It is desired to realize a high speed portable wireless terminal which can access a network rapidly at anytime and anywhere. Satellite communications have a potential to realize such terminals because of its wide coverage area. This paper describes a feasibility study of a multimedia satellite communication system using A4 size portable user terminals. Under the present satellite performance and interference conditions, it is clarified that the system can be achieved the following performance; the forward link speed is about 9.6kbit/s, the return link speed is about 8Mbit/s and the capacity of simultaneous transmit terminals is about 256.
