Abstract(in English) | The notable feature of the ATM leased line service is the arbitrariness of the virtual path bandwidth. Customers can take full advantage of this feature if they can optimize their virtual path network to minimize the charge against a given set of traffic demands. However, this optimization is a hard problem to be solved because a virtual path bandwidth becomes a nonlinear function of statistically multiplexed demands. To tackle this hardness, the piecewise linearization approach is examined. With the proposed approach, the problem is formulated as an integer programming problem and can be solved by a generic optimization software. The computational time and accuracy of the approach are evaluated through computer experiments. |
