Abstract(in English) A multibeam satellite antenna with a large deployable reflector has been developed for advanced mobile satellite communications. A defocus-phased-array feeding method is applied because of it's advantages such as beam reconfigurability, adaptive resource allocation, spatial power synthesis, etc. In order to improve beam steering performance, on the other hand, it is necessary to increase the number of array elements and to feed all of the elements for each beam, which leads to a mass increase of the total feed system. The feeding array presented here is a solution to this problem. It consists of overlapping phased subarrays. Each subarray supports multiple beams for partial coverage in which a high-gain beam is required. The presented method eliminates redundant array elements and results in a smaller increase of the total array size compared with the total array size which results when using the usual phased array feeding method.
