| Abstract(in English) | Fostering children's ability to use information through the Internet is one of the objectives in "Integrated Study", which will be introduced as a national curriculum standard into every elementary, junior high and high school in the near future. Preparing for this governmental policy, we have developed a web-based search engine "Mikke"(http://www.mikke.wnn.or.jp/)for children to effectively use many educationally useful resources. The main characteristics of "Mikke" are as follows. (i)Children can search for objects from their feature(interactive retrieval)as well as from the keyword(keyword retrieval). (ii)Many learning resources such as texts, pictures, sounds and movies are included as the objects. (iii)The functions for expanding children's idea are composed.(iv)The learning resources are easily devised, enlarged and built in the system. In this paper, how to realize the functions for the interactive retrieval and arising children's curiosity by turning their attention to many things in the study is described. |
