Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We have developed an ITS for guiding fraction calculation, which enables a student to write fraction expressions using a pen on a WWW client. We named it "WWW FRONTIER". We have developed the Handwriting Character Recognition Module (HCRM) as Java applet. The HCRM and pen-based interface works on a WWW client, and intelligent modules works on a WWW server (a UNIX workstation). The architecture of the system realize a quick response to student's handwriting input, because handwriting character are recognized at the client side. This paper describes an outline of the system, details of the interface and method of handwriting character recognition.
