Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Many modern second language teaching methods are based on the communicative approach, where students are given the concrete situational information, and they are encouraged to follow the situation in their utterances. We suggest a Japanese language learning system which has a dialogue database with tagged situation-functional indices. These structured situation-functional indices are used by the system when it diagnoses the students' compositions and retrieves such dialogue units that give hints for correction, and also by students themselves when they search for informative dialogue samples. In this paper, we describe the design and implementation of the dialogue database.
