Abstract(in English) A file cache protocol to shaxe files on a WAN,which is geographically distributed in wide area,has been proposed by Hirota et al£2!.This paper evaluates it and compares it with other protocols by simulations.The protocol does not adopt the conventional server-client model.A server exists in each LAN and maintains only the locations in the WAN of the latest versions of files.Multiple ″latest″ versions of a file axe allowed to exist i n the WAN to reduce inter-LAN file transmissions.Those latest versions axe held by clients and those holding the latest versions may change depending on who accesses to the file.The effectiveness of the protocol is demonstrated by comparing with some conventional distributed file systems.
