FDTD Simulation of Shielding Effectiveness of Metal-Plated Plastics for Information Terminals

Abstract(in English) Metal-plated plastics is being used as a shielding material for information terminals due to its lightweight. In this paper, an FDTD algorithm was proposed for analyzing the shielding effectiveness of metal-plated plastics. The validity of the proposed algorithm, for both far-field and near-field shielding, was verified by comparing the calculated results with theorical ones. Good agreement was found between them when the size of the shielding material is sufficiently large compared to the wavelength. However, when the shielding material is not large with respect to the near-field source, the calculated and measured shielding effects show similar frequency characteristics, while the level difference between them was found to reach 20 dB at most.
