Magnetic Near Field Around a Printed Circuit Board

Abstract(in English) Radiated emission from a printed circuit board (PCB) is a serious topic in a field of EMC/EMI. Magnetic fields generated on a PCB of finite area backed with copper foil are considered experimentally. A ground current may cause the radiated emission of common-mode, so that the magnetic fields on the back side of the ground plane are also focused to consider the current on it. Model lines of a trace located at the center of the PCB (center model) and one near the edge (off-center model) are used for measurement. Experimental results show that at the back-side, would occur the field level of the center model are lower than that of the off-center model. The fact suggests that the increase of radiated emission would occur if the traces are located near edges of PCB. The experimental results of the common-mode currents on the conductor lines attached at the fringe of the ground plane slow the fact that the magnitude for the line in parallel to the signal-line direction is larger than one in perpendicular. It is also shown that the computing result of the fields by taking account of the vector potentials due to the currents on the line-section and at the line terminals are in good agreement with the experimental results in the vicinity of signal line.
