Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) This study is part of a project of developing a theory of sense-making in verbal interaction(Fukaya and Tanaka 1996). Defining the notion of "sense" of verbal expression as "the state of affairs to be constructed from the expression", this paper is basically concerned with two questions:(1)How is a state of affairs being constructed? and(2)How is the process of concept-formation accounted for? In order to explore these questions, we employ two theoretical machinaries:(1)"grammar" as a device for self-organizing the entraining of memory chains, and(2)the interactive model of differentiating, generalizing and typicalizing.
