Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) This paper proposes a semantic model to describe semantic ambiguity of modal elements by reducing to the monolithic basic meaning. A case comes from a Japanese sentence final particle 'ta', which expresses multi-facet grammatical meaning of tense-aspect-mood, resisting uniform accounts, despites extensive amount of previous studies. The proposed framework offers the differential to describe the 'basic function' and 'derived meanings' and a mechanism to relate them. A case study of the Japanese sentence final particle 'ta' will show how the ambiguous 'derived meanings'can be reduced from the 'basic function' of 'ta'.
