| 抄録(和) | 理数系学術書や論文では、"数式"述語として「(～)すると、"数式"となる」、「よって、"数式"となる」等の表現が頻繁に用いられる。ところで、市販日英翻訳ソフトの多くはこれらを殆ど″become″と訳出しているが、英語国人の研究者や技術者が読めば、奇異に感じるであろう。述語「～なる」の言語学的意味は、"ある現象・物が特定の起点から到達点への場所移動する"概念の包括的な言語表現であると説く[1]。場所移動の変化には「所有の変化」と「状態の変化」があり、それぞれに適切な英語表現がある。英語国人は現象・物の形状・性質等の"場所移動の変化"に視点を当て語彙選択しているが、日本人は到達点に視点を当て語彙選択していると考える。本論文では、"フーリエ級数"分野に限定して日英学術書から"数式"述語「～なる」の自然な英語表現を比較検討している。この研究成果を日英機械翻訳へ適用する一案を述べている。 |
| 抄録(英) | The present paper deals with the subjects to be considered in the Japanese-English translation of the predicate word"NARU"in Japanese. In the academic texts or the papers of science and technology, we have a big tendency of using this word as the predicate in the description of equations in mathematics. This predicate has a number of linguistic meaning in spite of simple word. English has a variety of expressions with respect to the corresponding"NARU". To fond better Japanese-English translation, we have studied the frequencies of the said predicate from a academic text of Fourier Transform written in English. We conclude that the research developments are useful in finding the proper predicate in the Japanese-English Translation. Finally, a better translation method is disclosed with some examples. |
