Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The converter/distributor (C/D) model describes phonetic properties of speech utterances which carry both linguistic and extralinguistic messages. The model defines explicitly several abstract phonetic concepts such as prosodic structure, phonetic statuses of syllables or their subcomponents, skeleton, and melody. Several phonetic contours, including vocalic contours, constitute aspects of the slowly changing base function, on which fast and rigid consonantal and vocalic elemental gestures arising from consonantal feature specifications are superimposed. This model gives a new perspective on how extralinguistic information with respect to utterance situations of a given linguistic form is incorporated into the signal characteristics.
