Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Thinking is the central activity in the highly developed human intelligence, but has hitherto been eluded full elucidation in spite of the efforts in various academic fields. The failure of artificial intelligence to match human intelligence is considered to be due to the fact that it is not based on the understanding of human intelligence. From this point of view, this paper discusses studies on the human mind and thinking, then touches upon knowledge acquisition and utilization, and emphasizes the need for an integrated and interdisciplinary research toward deeper understanding of the human process and ability of thinking.
