Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Since Kutas & Hillyard demostrated that semantically inappropriate words elicit the N400 component, a considerable number of papers have been made on ERP correlates for language processing. Moreover the pioneering work of Neville et al. which showed that specific waveforms related to different aspects of syntactic anomalies added the theoretical aspects from the linguistic point of view on ERP studies. While P600 and N280 are good candidates for the ERP correlates for syntactic processes, much still remains to be done. In our preliminary study, P600 was not elicited by the syntactically anomalous words, but rather, variable components were found in an earlier latency range as compared with N400. Either the variance in the topographical patterns of these components reflect the specificity of the process in the brain system for each type of anomalies or just caused by the combination of several subcomponents calls for further investigations.
