Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The fundamental principle of natural language acquisition presented here gives a solution to pre-Plato′s problem of explanin g what grammar, containing both syntax and semantics, the infant acquires on the basis of limited experience. The principle requires the most efficient grammar which is consistent with given experience. The efficiency of a grammar is evaluated by the coding redundancy of given experiences defined as the sum of(1)the size of the grammar,(2)the fitness of the grammar to the experiences, and(3)the size of the unrelated part of the experiences to the grammar. Two examples of language acquisition in the simplified world show that the grammars satisfying the principle for experience given in the world coincide with the grammars that we expect to be constructed in the world. An enumerative inference algorithm which approaches in the limit to the ″correct″ grammar gives an positive answer to the question whether the grammar satisfying this principle for experience is decidable.
