Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The shapes of Ag breaking arc and Pd breaking arc in a DC 50 V/2.5~5.0 A circuit were measured with a high speed video. As a result, on Ag breaking arc, the cathode spot expanded between the contacts during the metallic phase arc from the beginning of arc descharge. In the gaseous phase arc the shape of arc was a column and the cathode spot was distributed near the cathode contact and a positive column was formed between the cathode spot and the anode contact. On Pd breaking arc, the cathode spot and the positive column could not be identified as Ag breaking arc, because the arc duration was so short. As for the shift distance of the arc spot on the cathode surface, that of Pd breaking arc was bigger than that of Ag breaking arc. From the above results, it was cleared that the movement of breaking arc on the contact surface was different by the contact materials.
