Abstract(in English) This paper describes the recognition method used in our newly developed English text OCR and its performance.Its target was to achieve robust recognition against low-quality documents and it is characterized by the following:(1)calculating a ″word score″ for each word from the character scores,trigrams and ″shape values,″ such as the relative sizes and positions of adjacent characters,(2) recognizing touched characters and broken ones by the same approach,(3)achieving fast processing by discarding unlikely candidates in the ″pre-recognition″ phase and skipping the rest o f the candidates when a ″safe″ one is found with a sufficiently h igh score.(4)automatically learning irregular patterns(to gain a higher accuracy).
