Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) When documents are copied or faxed, many chaxacters are connected each other, and then the recognition rate of English OCR reduces remarkably. In this paper,to segment these connected characters efficiently,we examine the segmentation method that consists of two stages. The first stage is splitting the string whose length is more than three characters into short string whose length is less than two characters. The second stage is splitting the short strings into individual characters. Then we introduce a new slant correction algorithm using the direction histogram of border points. Finally the authors examine the methods of error detection and error correction using the information of the position and size of a recognized character.
