A Model Matching Method for Object Recognition Based on a Hierarcical Object Model

Abstract(in English) We have been developing an image recognition system which has an ability to automatically acquire a model of an object class from image examples. The model is described in hierarchical relationship of segmented regions and 2-D features of the regions. When the system generates the model, the object region is specified by the user. However, when the system recognizes an object, the system should search the object region in a given image. The problem in recognizing an object is that the region segmentation often causes an undesirable result, or mis-segmentation, when its background is not clearly distinguishable from the object. In this paper, we will discuss a strategy of object finding and recognition based on a hierarchical structure of the object model.
