Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Though many different edge detectors are already exist, a lot of detectors are still being proposed. Most of them output the edge orientation and the edge intensity. We propose an edge detector based on the analysis of variances within a window around the edge. We found that the traditional edge .intensity can be viewed as a composition of edge height and edge reliability. We compare our detector to Canny's detector both in synthetic models and in a real iIIlage and demonstrate that our method produces better results than Canny's.
