Abstract(in English) We developed a region swelling-shrinking model called MEDUSA in our previous work.However,MEDUSA suffered from poor pefformances due to its inappropriate energy func-tion. The aim of this paper is to develop the new enerty function for driVing MEDUSA to owrcome this problem. The new energy function consists of the fo1lowing three terms:(i)region energy based on the mixtured density description of the input image,(ii)edge energy,and(iii)smoothness energy. We show some experimental results to demonstrate perfonIlances of MEDUSA with the new energy function.
