Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In order to improve on-line handwritten character recognition in the trend of personalization, a considerable amount of casually handwritten pen-trace patterns with common distortions must be collected from each person. This has lead to the construction of a database of on-line handwritten character patterns sampled in a sequence of sentences without any instructions. The sentences have been picked up from newspaper to include 1227 frequently appearing character categories with the result that they are composed of about 10,000 characters and include 1537 kinds of JIS 1st set character categories. The rest of the JIS 1st set categories are written one by one at the end of the above text. Our laboratory collected on-line character patterns for this text from 30 people. We proposed common usage of this database with each offering patterns from 5 people. 9 makers have joined this project. Recently, we added 5 sets. Patterns offered were inspected. Omissions and wrong patterns are now being rewritten.
