Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We propose a method for estimating face-and-eye direction from images taken with a camera. As a result of a psychological experiment, face-and-eye direction can be estimated only by eyes and mouth information. In the proposed method, first, we get face width, the positions of irises and eye corners by template matching and estimate rough direction of a face. Second, a 3D face model is generated by mapping the texture of eyes and a mouth, and the estimated face direction is corrected by matching the input image with the projected one of the 3D model rotating around the direction. Finally, we estimate eyeball rotation angles and add them and face direction to obtain eye directions. The method can estimate horizontal eye direction with average error of about 10 [deg] for 6 persons 126 images.
