Abstract(in Japanese) | (See Japanese page) |
Abstract(in English) | When fundamental frequency of a vowel fluctuates, apexes of harmonic components fluctuate synchronously along the spectral envelope. So the spectral envelope can be more clearly indicated, and hence vowel identification is expected to be easier, in case the fundamental frequency fluctuates. This report experimentally confirms that the fluctuations contribute to vowel identification, through listening test employing pulse excited synthetic vowels. The results show that sinusoidal fluctuation of fundamental frequency improves vowel identifiability more for higher fundamental frequency than for lower fundamental frequency. Shown is the possibility that the sinusoidal fluctuation has saturation depth beyond which vowel identifiability cannot be improved anymore. |
