A study on a robust speech coding method against channel errors

Abstract(in English) A new error detecting and correcting method is proposed so as to minimize a redundancy caused by error correcting codes.This method utilizes correlations between frame power and other speech parameters in a CELP type coding.In an ideal linear prediction coding,there are no correlations between these parameters.But in practice,the non-flatness of the frequency characteristics of the excitation waves and the finite frame length causes the correlations.Due to the correlations,bit errors in the speech parameters cause fluctuations of frame power of synthesized speech, then enable us to detect and correct the bit errors.Some experiments were carried out on the condition that one bit error occurs per frame.As a result,the error detection rates were more than 95 percent after each codebook was remapped so as to maximize the mean distance between all adjacent codewords.
