Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Modern speech recognition technology is not always complete. It frequently causes recognition errors. Whereas human can guess correct meaning of sentences to some extent even if the sentences include some recognition errors. By using the guessing ability, the present speech technology would be useful as a communication aid for the hearing impaired, especially for the acquired deaf. In the case of the aid device, it would be better that the device does not display the recognition errors because the errors may cause the comprehension error of the sentences. In this report, how accurately hearing impaired people as well as normal subjects can guess the meaning of the sentences including some recognition errors was investigated to design a communication aid. From the experimental results, it was found that the subjects can guess the meaning of the sentences if about half of the speech are correctly recognized and that the comprehension ability does not decrease even if the incorrectly recognized speech is displayed. Furthermore, the most suitable and the smallest speech recognition model was proposed based on the experimental results by using eight different kinds of models.
