Abstract(in English) This paper deals with some special monosyllabic Chinese words which contain retroflex consonants. According to the spectrum analysis the special characterisitc is found at high frequency over 5kHz. The distinction is not only in the consonant part but also comparing with the spectrum of fllowing vowel. The people in the north region of China distinguish the utterance of retroflex consonants, but those in the south region of China do not. This paper describes the hearing examination on the distinction of the consonants where the same result was observed.
