Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) With some variance due to the extent of and circumstances surrounding it, most glossectomy patients experience loss of mastication, deglutition, and speech function. We have been successful in improving these functions in such cases using palatograms of /ata/, /aki/, /aka/ to fabricate lingually attached prostheses. In this study, we sought to obtain basic data to further improvement in speech intelligibility through taking palatograms of three subjects with varying degrees of glossectomy and utilizing the 100 Japanese Monosyllable Speech Intelligibility method. Particular attention was paid to comparative effects of differing glossectomy extents on speech production.
