Speech Coding using STRAIGHT Speech Analysis/Synthesis Method

Abstract(in English) In recent years, Kawahara proposes a new VOCODER method, STRAIGHT(Speech Transformation and Representation using Adaptive Interpolation of weiGHTed spectrum), which can analyze and synthesize speech with very high quality. So, we try to apply STRAIGHT to speech coding. In this report, first, a MOS test of STRAIGHT and other speech coding algorithms is performed. Consequently, the quality of STRAIGHT is shown equal to 4bit ADPCM or 7bit μ-law PCM. Second, STRAIGHT parameters compress algorithms are discussed. We propose to use LSP(10 order)coefficients and LPC residual signal(20 point). By this method, STRAIGHT parameters are reduced to a ratio of 30/512. Moreover, the multi-split quantization of STRAIGHT parameters is discussed. By the MA prediction, LPC cepstrum distortion is improved by 0.15 dB respectively. Finally, we propose an 7.8kbps speech coding algorithm using the STRAIGHT method whose quality is better than 5bit μ-law PCM(40kbps).
