Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) This article presents a method to constrain the diverse patterns of vocal-tract movement that can generate a given speech signal, to those that are compatible with the human physiology. Basically, the method uses a corpus of area function trajectories to formulate a parametric representation for blocks of frames (≈200ms) with a relatively small number of parameters. This representation is based on singular value decomposition, and contains the same statistical optimality principle of the Karhunen-Loeve transform. The obtained parametrized articulatory space is then used to formulate a cost function which is minimized under an acoustic constraint (given by a formant frequency sequence) to find out the area function trajectory that is the most likely to occur for a given speech interval.
