Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We developed Variable Rate Codec for CDMA digital cellular System. The newly developed codec consists of CELP mode-codecs for each short-term characteristics of speech, and mode selector using neural networks (Multiple Layer Perceptron) for high performance under background noise condition and high/low input level condition. By listening test of decoded speech under noise free and error free condition, the proposed codec was proved to attain the nearly same quality of ITU-T G.728.
