Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We made an experiment to encourage active communication in lectures by introducing a chat system. In distance lectures, Communication has more important means than in convertional lectures. It is very difficult for the lecturer to find responses of participants in distance lectures. Active communication helps him/her to find responses and it characterizes real-time lectures. Thus we made the experiment not in distance lectures but in convertional lectures. We referred experimental chat sessions in conferences by Rekimoto et al.and experimented five times in the lecture that held in the first term of 1999 in Kyoto Univrsity. As a result of the experiment, we could not find active communications because chatting was a heavier burden for students than our expectations. However, we obtained some useful knowledge for future experiments.
