Generalization of Understanding for Program Understanding System

Abstract(in English) This paper introduces the method of understanding for the program understanding system ALPUS that is a subsystem of the integrated intelligent programming environment INTELLITUTOR. And in order to understand some kinds of programming language, ALPUS translates a source code into abstract expression by language-common concept. The following describes the method of the understanding of translated code. ALPUS understands a program by pattern-matching using knowledge. However, since ten programmers could make ten different patterns for the same program, we translate variations into the standard patterns of ALPUS. This paper also describes the method of doing so.
