Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We have already developed an automated optical fiber cross-connect module, which achieves optical cross-connect by using a robot hand and optical connectors, for use in the construction of a reliable optical network for intelligent buildings. Making the module more compact is important because installation spaces in the offices are small. We propose micro-optical connectors and a small robot hand, which make the module very compact. Each micro-optical connector uses a glass ceramic ferrule with a diameter of 0.5mm and has a low average lnsertion loss of 0.24dB. The small robot hand, which has a CCD camera, detects three-dimensional positions with an accuracy of better than 50 μm and can handle the micro-optical connectors.
