Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) To construct the FTTH (Fiber To The Home), advanced splicing techniques must be developed ; they must achieve high reliability and low splicing loss, yet with easy procedures and low costs. Because of high reliability, most connecting is done by fusion splicing, but in the future mechanical splicing is expected to become an economical alternative, many types of products have already been developed. We have developed a splicing mechanism with glass micro capillaries in which fiber ends are aligned. We have introduced a series of mechanical splicing products. In this paper we disclose the examination results of an index-matched gel compound durability and reliability, and the latest results from field tests.
